7th period
Group 4 - Simile
The definition of a simile is a figure of speech that uses two unlike things that are explicitly compared with the words "like or as". Even though similes and metaphors are both forms of comparison, similes allow the two ideas to remain distinct in spite of their similarities, whereas metaphors compare two things without using "like" or "as" but you will learn about metaphors from another group.
Examples:
The red roses are like silk in my hands. The desserts is as sweet as candy. The sun is as hot as an oven. She is as annoying as nails scratching on a chalkboard. Curley was flopping like a fish on a line.
These are poems with similes in them

All similes are highlighted in a different color
A Red, Red Rose

O My Luve's like a red, red rose,That's newly sprung in June;
O My Luve's like the melodie
That's sweetly played in tune.

Sadness is as happy as laughter.

You might cry because it hurts.

You might laugh because it hurts.

But I know one thing,
laughter is laughter and sadness

They can show the
same things like
hurting and gladness.

Blue eyes
My eyes are as blue as the ocean.
They swish and swirl around.
I think they are neat.
because they look
as blue as the ocean.
